Lighting

Today we really played with the functions of our DSLR cameras, we played with the Shutter Speed, the F Stop & ISO. We used red heads to allow us to manipulate the direction and intensity of lighting basically give us control of the lighting as well as the camera functions that would allow us to control the amount of light that gets into the lenses. Here are some of my outcomes.

Exploratory Stage Summary

I've found the past 6 weeks very educating, it has helped me to understand the pathways; Fashion and textiles, graphics, 3DD, Lenses Based Media and what they are about but more importantly it has helped me to understand myself more. The first rotation my group had was fashion and textiles. I found fashion and textiles very enjoyable and fun I think this was due to the amount of practical activities we completed, I was actually quite shocked at how much I enjoyed fashion and textiles as I didn't think that it would be half as enjoyable as it was. My second rotation was 3DD; I would say this was this most practical of all the rotations due to the large scale objects that you make. What stood out for me was making then bridge out of cardboard and bamboo. I didn't think it was possible but I proved myself wrong. My third rotation was Graphics, when I came to Ravensbourne I thought that I would be choosing graphics as my pathway due to what I thought graphics included however in completing this rotation I learnt that it wasn't quite what I expected. I now know that graphics includes a lot of typography and not so much editing which wasn't what I expected. Although graphics was not what I expected it was still enjoyable experimenting with a lot of materials and doing a range of drawings. My final rotation was lenses based media I think that this was the most interesting of the rotations as it was in my interest. The stock motion animation that we created as a class was fantastic and I really enjoyed the photography side of the rotation. However what stood out for me and made me choose LBM as my pathway was the talks about what is included in this year and what it can lead on to in degree courses. I have a interest in video editing, film making, animation and music videos which are all possibilities in this pathway as oppose to the other pathways. I hope to explore all these areas within the year. The exploratory stage has helped me to know what I like and don’t like. It’s helped me to make a definite decision that I want to learn more about film making, video producing, video editing and that I want to pursue these areas as a career. If I had to summarise the exploratory stage in one word I would say its eye-opening and I would highly recommend it.

Lense based media (day 3)

Today we made a story from 6 pictures that we had to take prior to the lesson. my story and pictures are below.

Golly is a sells man who sells handmade luxury socks at good prices. He does hiss business outside because he doesn't have enough money to invest in a building and doesn't want to waste money on a market Stall when he can do the same thing without it in his opinion. He just goes around with his sign and backpack full of stock.
He is approached by a suspicious pair. They act as if they are normal customers and ask to view some socks before they purchase. At this point golly no longer suspects them and hands over the goods.
The two analysis the socks then they push golly; he stumbles and falls to the ground. They quickly make a run
for it and disappear in a matter of seconds. Leaving golly no way of tracing them.
Golly doesn't want to allow his business to fall to pieces but he can’t think of any way that he can re make the loss. Golly then remembers an advert he saw earlier that day about a new prawn brokers in a local town and his favorite chain that his mother got him as a gift. Although it was hard golly found the strength to pawn his chain, planning to buy it back once his business is back on its feet.

Golly contacts his business associate and uses the pawn money to buy some brand new and improved stock. Golly hits the road and makes it happen.

We had to storyboard our story mine is below.

Lense Based Media (Day 2)

Today we done a series of drawings of characters. Our teacher gave us a subject for us to draw a character for e.g. someone from your dreams. below are my characters.
after this we was told to use the characters and places that we drew to create short stories with a beginning, problem, resolution and end. we then had to draw the stories above our drawings.

We then had to crop the drawing in different ways that would change the meaning of the piece.

Graphics (day 2)

The first task we had to do today was mark making. We had to make 10 different letters using a range of marks and materials.

we then had to write a list of the things that we did and did not include in our marks (letters).
our next task was to choose one of our marks (letters) and do the same marks for the whole alphabet.
Our final task was to duplicate a computer font and spell out our name with it.

Graphics (Day 1)

our first task was to make a face out of magazine face cut outs.

next we had to do several drawing exercises that involved us drawing one of our classmates with our eyes closed, with our week hand, without taking the pen off the paper and with the pen in our mouth.

Next we had to draw one of our classmates ears on A1 paper large scale.
the whole class then took their work to the lobby floor and set it out in a big display.
